10 Major UFC Signings That Failed Miserably
2. Alastair Overeem
If this list encompassed the entirety of mixed martial arts, then Alistair Overeem would never be on this list. After all, he's a former DREAM and Strikeforce heavyweight champion, an Abu Dhabi Combat Club European Trials winner and the winner of the 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix. To say that he hasn't achieved anything in his career would simply be incorrect.
However, when it came to fighting inside the UFC and winning the most important belt of them all, Overeem simply couldn't get over the hump. After violent dismantling Brock Lesnar in his UFC debut, the Dutch kickboxer was set to face Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146. However, he failed a pre-fight drug test and was taken off the card.
After going back-and-forth between wins and losses, Overeem managed to earn a title shot against heavyweight king, Stipe Miocic, but that ended in a brutal knockout victory for the champ. While he's won plenty in his career, we can't help but feel that Overeem will look at the UFC title as the one that got away once he hangs up his 4oz gloves.
