10 Most Likely WWE Royal Rumble 2018 Winners

2. John Cena

John Cena waves goodbye
WWE

Having tasted Royal Rumble success in 2008 and 2013, victory for John Cena on January 28 would see him tie Stone Cold Steve Austin as the joint-most successful wrestler in the event's history. Victory in the main event of WrestleMania 34, moreover, would see him surpass Ric Flair in terms of World Title reigns (at least officially).

That alone is reason enough to put John Cena as one of the outstanding candidates. The curtain on his full-time wrestling career is slowly coming down, and if WWE is intent on positioning him as its all-time number one, there's a finite window in which to bestow him with these few remaining accolades.

He's also a free agent too, which means they can get around the fact that he'd be opting to face the SmackDown champion over Brock Lesnar by claiming that there is nothing obligating him to one brand over the other.

Everything seems to make perfect sense here, the only flicker of doubt being that we've already seen him take on AJ Styles in the not-too-distant past (three times, actually - not that anyone would complain about another, given the quality of their matches) and it seems unlikely that Kevin Owens or Sami Zayn will take the belt.
