10 Most Shocking Double-Crossings In WWE History
9. Vince McMahon Turns On The Rock
Heading into WrestleMania 2000, we had ourselves a Fatal 4-Way
main event with the added footnote that a member of the McMahon family would feature in the corner of each participant.
Accompanied by his wife Stephanie, Triple H defended his WWF Championship against a Linda-flanked Mick Foley, the Big Show who was backed by Shane and The Rock, who’d drawn the short straw of having the chairman of the board himself on his side.
With all of those McMahon’s in such close proximity, it was less a case of whether or not we’d see a double-cross and more a case of which one would be delivering the inevitable betrayal.
In the end, it was Vince who’d have the privilege of turning his back on his guy. Having initially seemed to be gearing up to batter Triple H with a chair, he swerved us all at the last moment by realigning his aim and instead walloping The Great One.
The Brahma Bull had the gumption to kick out of Triple H’s subsequent cover, but a second chair shot from Vince would later keep him down for the count, in what was the first of two successive WrestleMania main events that Vince screwed The Rock out of.
Still, at least at WrestleMania X-Seven he hadn’t claimed to be in his corner beforehand.
