7. Daniel Bryan: Just Say YES!

Though it might feel like fairly recent history to most, Daniel Bryan’s career in and out of WWE is about as interesting as they come, which you’ll know if you’ve read his autobiography. Not only is the book full of fascinating tales about the pro-wrestling industry (a lot of them told at the expense of WWE), but it also chronicles what is effectively the longest ‘Road to WrestleMania’ of all time, a journey across the American and Japanese indies via WWE and back, that ultimately ended at WrestleMania XXX.

Bryan's is a real underdog story, a powerful tale about the virtues of being yourself, not giving up, and believing in your own abilities without ever trampling over your peers. Bryan’s informal and friendly written tone is a huge part of what makes the book such a page-turner, and it’s something that would need to be retained were his story ever to be transferred to the big screen.

It’s likely that WWE will release plenty of Network specials about Bryan in the coming years – he seems like a sure-fire contender for the Hall of Fame at some point in the future, and his impact on WWE’s wrestling style and their approach to talent recruitment is unparalleled within his generation. But in doing so, they’d probably miss out on all of the juicy details about WWE firing Bryan (twice!) or Vince McMahon shunning him because “he doesn’t eat meat”. Such details – and the reasons behind them – are crucial to his story as a whole, and would be more likely to remain intact in a dramatized production or a feature documentary.
