With his involvement in the Cruiserweight Classic being largely based on a last-chance-saloon, redemption-style angle, Brian Kendrick has hardly been what you’d call a bond fide bad guy.

In light of his Clash of Champions match with TJ Perkins though, Kendrick revealed his true colours and left us in no doubt whatsoever about his character’s future direction. Having tasted defeat in a solid match with Perkins, Kendrick seemed to be showing his honourable side; shaking the victors hand in post-match show of solidarity.

Seconds later though, Kendrick dished out a nasty head butt to the jaw of Perkins, leaving the champ down and out in the middle of the ring and taking his character from being slightly shady to a flat-out douchebag.

All things considered, this seems like it might have been a wise move as it leaves us in no doubt as to who the leading antagonist of the Cruiserweight division is going to be. It also means that there’s unfinished business between Kendrick and Perkins, with a rematch looking likely at some point down the line.

Admittedly that match may not be such a new direction, but the decision to clearly define Kendrick’s true intentions was a welcome development nonetheless.
