Just squeaking past Lesnar and Goldberg however is the match that is arguably the best on this entire list. The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are probably the two individuals that come to mind when one thinks of timelessness and improving with age, and the match they put on to close out WrestleMania XXVI was a match that belied their combined 89 years.

If it belied that statistic in terms of the energy and intensity throughout then it used every single one of those 89 years when it came to pacing and experience. Taker and Michaels were never going to be able to top their classic from WrestleMania XXV but one year later in the main slot they matched it nonetheless.

Certain things do improve with age, and whilst professional wrestlers are rarely among those things you can never guess when someone may get that last day in the sun. WWE has a genuine youth movement these days so the likelihood of these matches being topped is unlikely, but never say never. We're yet to see Goldberg vs. The Undertaker after all.

Did I miss anything? There was a whole lot of maths involved here, so if I missed anything please let me know. Either way, this list should provide some solace to the elderly members of the WhatCulture readership.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
