On the night of his arrival in NXT at TakeOver: R Evolution, Kevin Owens betrayed his best friend Sami Zayn, and thus their long-running rivalry was born. They have gone one-on-one on two separate occasions at TakeOver: Rivals and TakeOver: Unstoppable, respectively, with both bouts ending in either referee stoppage or going to a no contest. That said, there remains unfinished business between the two storied rivals. Owens put Zayn on the shelf with a shoulder injury last May (which he takes complete credit for) and by the time Zayn returned to his stomping grounds at Full Sail University, Owens had already been promoted to the main roster. Having been down in developmental for over three years, it's high time Zayn make his way to Raw as well. Zayn will be a part of next week's Triple Threat match on NXT to crown a new No. 1 contender to the NXT Championship, but even if was for one night only, he could enter the Royal Rumble and exact revenge on Owens by eliminating him. The former Intercontinental champion recently confronted his former friend at an NXT house show, so the seeds have certainly been planted.
