Much has been made of Ric Flairs financial woes, so much so that its somewhat surprising that to this day hes still worth upwards of $5 million. With Shane Ryans infamous Grantland piece on the Nature Boy draws attention to his struggles in later life, its easy to forget the rags-to-riches ordeal that Flair went through as a child. He was adopted by the Tennessee Childrens Home Societynotorious for its involvement with the kidnapping of children and their illegal adoptions. In his autobiography, Ric Flair: To Be The Man, Flair reveals some disturbing facts about the orphanage, and it is suggested that he may have been the victim of this very scandal. The exact truth, however, remains unknown. What is known though, is that Flair was soon adopted by Richard and Kathleen Fliehr. It is presumably from this surname that Flair derived his iconic ring name, under which he became perhaps the greatest professional wrestler of all time. Even without considering the troubles he encountered in later life, the Ric Flair story remains an incredible one.
