10 Ridiculous Finishes To WWE And WCW World Title Matches
4. Wrestlemania IX - Yokozuna vs Bret Hart For The WWF Championship
1992 saw the debut of Yokozuna, who was then immediately pushed as a monster heel who dominated any and all forms of competition he faced. Bret Hart faced his toughest challenge as WWF Champion yet, when the two finally collided at Wrestlemania IX. Bret Hart spent the duration of the match trying to ware Yokozuna down with a lot of technical wrestling, holds and submission maneuvers. Yokozuna seemed to be setting up for the Banzai Drop, but Bret Hart countered by smashing Yokozuna's face into an exposed turnbuckle. Yokozuna fell, Hart applied the Sharpshooter. Yokozuna's manager Mr. Fuji came to the rescue with a hand full of salt which blinded Hart and allowed Yokozuna to get the easy pin on the reigning champion. Yokozuna's first title win was promptly ruined when Hulk Hogan came down to the ring to check on Hart, who then challenged Yokozuna for the WWF title, then and there. Mr. Fuji accepts, throws salt at Hogan which hits Yokozuna, Hogan hits a leg drop and wins the match in 22 seconds. Hulk Hogan winning the title at Wrestlemania for a match he wasn't even scheduled for is absurd. It's a massive lie to the audience and is the epitome of terrible, thoughtless booking. Not to mention the whole stunt defies character, taking advantage of someone who's already wrestled should be a devious quality, something a heel would do, not the face of a company. Hogan's impromptu title win was the icing on the cake on an already poor Wrestlemania.
