10 Stacked WWE Cards Which Failed To Deliver
4. WrestleMania IV
WWE failing to deliver despite possessing a truly stacked card isn't an entirely modern trope, I'll have you know.
As far back as 1988's WrestleMania IV, the company were proving that simply guaranteeing appearances from all of your favourite names wouldn't necessarily result in an event for the ages.
Attempting to follow an iconic 'Mania III, WWF were always going to be facing an uphill battle.
However, instead of throwing together the best bouts they had to offer and delivering an event which could have rivalled the prior year's spectacle, the promotion opted for ill-advised swerves and wasted what could have been a ground breaking tournament.
This tournament would culminate in the crowning of a new WWF World Heavyweight Champion on the night and it contained a who's who of now-legendary superstars.
Yet, that didn't stop a lot of the matches feeling like an utter waste of time.
The greatly hyped Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant rematch of the previous year's main event ended in a double DQ.
Jake 'The Snake' Roberts and Rick Rude's match fizzled out to a time-limit draw.
We were also denied a second classic on the Grandest Stage between Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage thanks to the company deciding that Greg Valentine should go over in his first round contest with Steamboat.
The entire event just felt like a let down and it was only marginally salvaged by Savage's eventual victory. It could've been a 'Mania for the ages, though, and that is why it can only be seen as a failure in hindsight.
