10 Storylines WWE Has Already Messed Up In 2018
4. Dolph Ziggler's Triumphant Return
As the countdown rang through the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia at the Royal Rumble event, fans couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. They were awaiting the final entrant in what was already one of the best battle royals in years. Would it be a returning star? A legend? Daniel Bryan? The answer, with much fanfare, was a record scratch announcing the arrival of Dolph Ziggler - just a month after he left the United States Championship in the ring and walked away from WWE.
Ziggler was in the midst of a strange, anti-gimmick persona when he left the company, but he seemed to return as a babyface, thrust into the WWE Championship picture for the Fastlane event. WWE never made much of a reference to his absence or to his motivation in making a return to the company after an unorthodox display of dismay and disillusionment.
Since then, Ziggler has never moved into the spotlight in WWE and was tossed at random into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania. He moved across to Raw during the Superstar Shake-up and seems set to continue in his status as a perennial midcarder, with WWE having totally forgotten what was supposed to be a ballyhooed return.
