10 Terrible Wrestling Matches (That Should Have Been Great)
7. Jake Roberts vs. Sting (WCW Halloween Havoc 1992)
"Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal".
That was the tagline for WCW's Halloween Havoc 1992 pay-per-view, and it looked like a heavily-hyped match pitting a heel Jake Roberts against resident hero Sting would cap off the show brilliantly. They might have, had WCW's idiotic booking committee not scheduled them to base the excitement of Jake's supershow debut for the company on climbing a big pole.
Oh yes, those stupid 'On A Pole' matches were around long before Vince Russo.
Dubbed a 'Coal Miner's Glove Match', the main event was a 10-minute stinker that straight up failed to make anyone watching care about Roberts or Sting getting their hands on what appeared to be a giant oven mitt. By penning this stipulation, WCW undermined Jake's pay-per-view bow and ruined what should have been a memorable occasion.
Roberts would never get another chance to make up for this debacle in WCW.
