10 Things We Learned From Big Show On Stone Cold's Broken Skull Sessions Podcast

1. Why His WrestleMania Match With Austin Was Canned

Big Show Debut
WWE

When Show debuted at the St. Valentine's Day Massacre pay-per-view in February 1999 and accidentally helped Steve Austin beat Vince McMahon, the WWF had grand plans. They wanted to slowly build towards a match between Austin and Show at WrestleMania 2000, but that idea was scrapped almost instantly.

On the 22 March episode of Raw, Austin beat the big newbie on free TV.

Show explained why this happened rather succinctly. He admits he was just happy to be in the company, and that's not what McMahon wanted from his new hire. Vince wanted a giant that would rip off heads and challenge the top stars already headlining his cards. Show didn't offer that, so Vince cancelled his big program with Austin and decided to mentally move on.

The boss made the call to blow the feud off on Raw rather than carefully building towards a 'Mania blockbuster the following year. This shows how quickly Vince can change his mind when he doesn't think he's getting much back from talent.
