10 Things We Learned From Kenny Omega On Wrestling Observer Radio

5. His Thoughts On THAT Moxley Match

Kenny Omega AEW interview

There was a terribly awkward moment during the podcast, when Omega casually dropped into the conversation that Nick Jackson told him host Meltzer wasn't keen on his immensely polarising Lights Out match with Jon Moxley at Full Gear. Backpedaling, the journo said he appreciated the technical mastery of the contest, but that it wasn't his cup of tea.

"I totally get that," replied a magnanimous Omega - though he noted that he was personally really proud of the match. But was it as horrendously dangerous as it looked?

Without wanting to expose too much of the magic, Omega let on that the barbs weren't filed down, as it's better to be pierced than scratched - leaving tiny holes that heal very quickly instead of deep scars. He did, however, admit that he massively underestimated bumping on the exposed ring boards.

Though he never performs a stunt he is second-guessing himself on, he couldn't realistically practice the missed Fenix Splash onto the planks. It was, he revealed, the worst bump of his life - and he's "never" going to do it again.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
