Calaway likely knew he'd be back at MSG in some capacity even after hanging up his boots in 2020. He's a WWE legend, after all, and Triple H will always welcome his old onscreen enemy back to mentor others or generally chill out behind the curtain. That didn't stop 'Taker from getting all choked up and emotional when pulling up to the venue for what'd surely be his last match there on 7 July 2018.

That night, Undertaker teamed with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens and Elias. It proved to be a routine six-man tag win for the good guys, but the actual match itself wasn't playing on 'Taker's mind. What chiefs at the Garden had done for him very much was.

Driving in, he'd noticed that the entire venue's exterior was lit up purple in honour of his final appearance there. That mentally took him out, 'cause it was totally unexpected and Calaway hadn't been given a heads up beforehand. When surveying the scene from the car's back seat, he thought about all of the rich history at MSG and how many top stars deserved something like that.

He was the one getting it, not them, and that took a while to process.

Everyone at the Garden was incredibly kind to him that night, and he'll never forget it. WWE made sure the place went above and beyond to pay tribute to somebody who had been a stalwart on MSG cards since 1991. On Stephanie's Places, 'Taker found it hard to fight back the tears thinking about all of that.
