10 Things We Learned From WCW Magazine's Final Issue

3. Eric Bischoff Was Viewed As WCW's Saviour

Eager to buy WCW and re-establish the promotion as a force in the industry, Eric Bischoff has remarked numerous times that he lost all interest once it became clear a television slot wouldn't come with any purchase. That wasn't a problem for Vince McMahon, who already had substantial TV time, but to Bischoff, the lack of TV was a huge factor. The deal was already done by the time most fans read the final issue of WCW Magazine, but it's stunning to read how everyone involved in the company really felt Uncle Eric would be the one to turn things around, and have everyone raring to go once again, even weeks before the WWF stepped in. Everyone from Buff Bagwell to Rick Steiner claim that Bischoff is the best, and repeatedly state that WCW is a better environment when he's in charge. It's almost sad to think of what might have been, had Eric Bischoff been able to take charge in 2001. WCW was such a mess by that point that competing with McMahon may have been a pipe dream, but the company could have still entertained a big audience of wrestling fanatics.
