10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Rey Mysterio
6. He Only Received A Push Because Of Eddie Guerrero's Death
When Eddie Guerrero died in November 2005 it was one of the saddest moments in WWE history. He was one of the most believed characters in wrestling. Even though he was a heel for most of the year, the fans still loved him. We knew how much he fought through in his life to battle addictions and come back from it, but when he died suddenly in a hotel room it was very tragic. Rey Mysterio was one of Eddie's best friends. They actually feuded for most of 2005 with Eddie saying he was really the dad of Rey's son Dominick. When Eddie died, WWE pushed Rey harder than they ever had before. WWE knew that fans were missing Eddie so they had Rey go into the 2006 Royal Rumble dedicating the match for Eddie as if he was the only one that missed the guy. Of course he won the Rumble as an upset (how WWE termed it anyway) and dedicated it to Eddie. They also had that feud with Rey and Randy Orton post Royal Rumble where Orton said that Eddie was in hell as a way to draw heat. A lot of fans were upset that WWE milked Eddie's death so much. Mysterio was the one that benefited the most from it. It's a weird thing to say, but it's true. Maybe he would have won the World Title one day anyway, but the first time came on the heels of pushing Eddie's memory down the throat of the audience.
