6. It'll Always Be About The Soap Opera

Vince McMahon doesn't want to be seen as a mere wrestling promoter. His vision has always been to turn WWE into a multi-faceted entertainment provider, which is why WWE Studios still exists despite running at a loss most years. "We make movies, not wrestling," is the company's mantra, and it runs through every little thing they do on television, even in the supposed 'Reality Era.'

The 'male soap opera' analogy has become cliché, but it's still accurate. WWE are all about the drama. They've largely removed the 'sports' in 'sports entertainment,' and there's a strong case to be made that in doing so, the company have moved too far from what the fans want to see.

It's a solid argument, but while some would love to see a stronger in-ring focus, it's not going to happen as long as Vince is at the helm. The McMahons have done everything they can to distance themselves from traditional wrestling over the past few decades, and thus, nonsense like the Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton feud is here to stay. Expecting a workrate-centric style from the company just isn't realistic, and no matter how hard fans push, the soap opera will continue.
