10 Things You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Modern WWE Product

4. PG Is Here To Stay

WWE's PG rating is often held up as one of the modern product's biggest problems. Critics will say that the company's family-friendly focus has reduced Raw & SmackDown to glorified kids' TV shows, and they're not entirely wrong. There are definitely times when the product feels overly safe and sterilised, but returning to edgier themes isn't going to miraculously cure all the company's ailments, and the argument tends to ignore the rating's positive points.

PG has created a safer working environment for the wrestlers, and removed much of the crassness that plagued WWE throughout Attitude and beyond. More importantly, it has been a major success business-wise, helping the company to rebuild their public image and become a more attractive proposition to investors and advertisers alike.

For these reasons, PG is never going away, and calling for a return to a more mature rating is pointless. Doing so may please certain portions of the fanbase, but it'd almost certainly drive others away, and prompt advertisers to pull their commercials from WWE programming (as was often the case during the Attitude Era). PG is often problematic, but maintaining it makes good business sense.
