10 Things You Need To Know About Past WWE Road To WrestleManias

5. Edged Out

WWE had big plans for Edge after he split from tag team partner Christian and went solo in late 2001. He was given a run as Intercontinental Champion, got to team with childhood hero Hulk hogan and had celebrated a couple of celebrated series of matches with the ultra-talented Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle. Things were going really well for Edge and WWE planned to give him a major singles push in 2003. Then he went down with a serious neck injury and those plans were put on hold. It's hard to say just what exactly Edge would have been doing at WrestleMania XIX (the logical choice would have been him replacing Rhyno and teaming with Chris Benoit against The World's Greatest Tag Team and Los Guerreros) but there were definitely big plans in store for him post-WrestleMania. But perhaps Edge could have teamed with The Undertaker to take on Big Show & A-Train or had a singles match against somebody like RVD (who was dumped on the pre-show). Hell, young John Cena wasn't doing anything on the card (he was also on the pre-show), why not have Cena versus Edge? Sadly for Edge, it would take him over a year to recover from surgery and he didn't appear on WrestleMania XX ether.
