The one good thing that did come out of that first season of NXT was The Nexus, who infamously debuted on RAW by destroying John Cena and most of the set. In what initially appeared just to be another part of that attack, Daniel Bryan strangled Justin Roberts with his tie. It was a simple but brutal looking spot. The next day, it became a lot more complicated. Just as things were heating up, the rug was swept out from underneath him, and Bryan was fired from WWE. However, his time with WWE was not at an end. Less than three months later he returned to the company at Survivor Series becoming the surprise seventh man in Team WWE in their battle against The Nexus. That match ended up being the start of the downward spiral of that angle, WWE and Super Cena's victory spelling the end of Wade Barrett's men as a threat. But one man came out of it looking great: Daniel Bryan. On his return, he was treated like a star by the adoring Staples Centre crowd and he looked like one in the ring. Even his eventual elimination by Wade Barrett was caveated by the interference of his former mentor, The Miz. Bryan had survived his firing and come out of it looking even better than before.
