CM Punks WWE Championship reign was historic in a way that no other reign can claim. He held onto that title for four-hundred and thirty four days, the longest reign of the modern era and sixth longest of all time behind Pedro Morales, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Bob Backlund and Sammartino again. Its a feat that no-one can take from Punk, and an accomplishment that makes The Second City Saint worthy of anyones respect. Unless youre John Cena. There was a weird time in the middle of Punks reign where Cena just kept deciding that he deserved title shots. Legends like Mick Foley would come out and tell CM Punk his title reign meant nothing unless he could beat John Cena (again) and no matter how many times Punk beat Cena, hed be back the next night on Raw demanding another shot without much reasoning behind it. Its a running theme with Cena, and one that weve seen even more recently. He recently got into arguments with Dean Ambrose over who would get to fight Seth Rollins. Cenas reasoning was that Rollins cost him a title match against Brock Lesnar. Dean Ambroses reasoning was that Rollins tried to murder him with cinderblocks. Even when Ambrose won the opportunity, Cenas consolation prize was a #1 contender match against Randy Orton, and once again its John Cena who gets a shot at the WWE Championship. From inside the fiction of WWE, it almost seems like a conspiracy that keeps getting John Cena title shots he doesnt deserve.
