10 Times John Cena Got Totally Owned

3. ECW One Night Stand 2006

The match that John Cena had against Rob Van Dam at the ECW One Night Stand 2006 PPV was so memorable. Cena walked into the match as the WWE Champion. He was in an environment where he was hated more than ever. There was a famous "If Cena wins we riot" sign that was hanging in the arena. People hated him. Then there were things like when he threw his shirt into the crowd, so the fans threw it back at him. That wasn't scripted. It was real. The heat was genuine. It was the perfect setting for that match since RVD was the most beloved ECW wrestler there ever was, so when they went at it, the fans were really into it. At one point Cena even gave a clothesline to the ref because he was mad that the ref made him break the STFU submission. Following that ref bump, Cena's bad experience really started. He was attacked by a guy in a motorcycle helmet. It was Edge, who gave Cena Spear through a table that was propped up in the corner. RVD capitalized on the interference by jumping to the top rope and hitting his signature move: the Five Star Frog Splash. With no ref there to make the count, ECW's Paul Heyman entered to make the count. He counted Cena down for three and RVD became the WWE Champion. The crowd went wild. Cena had a bad night. He was hated by the fans, he was attacked by Edge and he was beaten by RVD. It's one of those moments that meant more because Cena was the guy that got pinned. It was also a night where Cena got totally owned.
