10 Times The Past Buried WWE's Future
6. Brock Lesnar Destroys Riccochet
When he was on the indies, Ricochet was a phenomenon. Clips of his superhuman athleticism would spread like wildfire in an era when more of a spotlight was being shone on the global independent scene than ever before. NXT did a great job of signing standout talent, and when Ricochet joined the rising brand, it felt like a match made in heaven.
Ricochet did great work in NXT, but his mic skills and Vince McMahon's love for bigger, meatier men always made it questionable how much impact Ricochet could have on WWE's main roster. His talent was undeniable, but his booking left a lot to be desired, as the company didn't really know how to lean into his death-defying ring work to increase his popularity.
Things hit an all-time low when Ricochet was booked to face Brock Lesnar at Super Showdown 2020 in Saudi Arabia. Lesnar swatted Ricochet's opening dropkick like he was a bug, and proceeded to decimate the flexible superstar in a 90-second victory. It showed that WWE's booking team didn't value Ricochet's skillset and saw him as nothing more than an enhancement talent. Try to remember this humiliation the next time you see Ricochet's Twitter fingers having a moment online.
