10 Times Vince McMahon Forgot To Restrain His Ego

10. Black Saturday

In 1984, Vince McMahon was close to national domination of televised wrestling, but there was one last piece he needed. If he could get a show on Ted Turner's TBS, he would control all of the nationally broadcast wrestling. When Turner refused, Vince McMahon bought the shares of Georgia Championship Wrestling from the Brisco brothers and Jim Barnett, making McMahon the majority shareholder of GCW, and in charge of the television content. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AUqCAgVkRA On June 14th 1984, Vince McMahon appeared on TBS, in front of a World Championship Wrestling banner to inform the fans of the change, and promising them they'll enjoy his show just as much as their old one. While the show was a ratings disaster, it kicked off an arms race of sorts with the AWA and WCCW getting in on the act, and eventually McMahon would sell the timeslot back to Jim Crockett Promotions which would lead to the formation of Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling and the Monday Night War over a decade later.
