Without a shadow of a doubt, the two most popular stars ever to lace up a pair of boots inside of Vince McMahon's company were Hulk Hogan and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.

So, it just made sense to throw the legends into a mouth-watering showdown when Hogan finally made his long-awaited return to WWE in early 2002. However, Austin reportedly wasn't too keen on working with 'The Hulkster', with The Rock instead stepping up to the plate at WrestleMania X-8.

A month on from that edition of 'The Show of Shows', however, those who stuck around after the April 22 episode of Monday Night Raw were briefly whipped into a frenzy at the prospect of 'The Texas Rattlesnake' and 'The Immortal One' finally locking horns.

With Austin stood holding his patented beers in his hands in the middle of the ring, Hogan ripped a can from his grasp, leading to a spine-tingling stare-down between the icons. Just when the concept of a Hogan/Austin war seemed to unbelievably be taking shape, however, the duo laughed off the tension and chugged the beverages.

"What" could've been, eh?
