10 Times WWE Didn't Realise Greatness Was Staring Them In The Face

2. The Road Warriors

Vince McMahon certainly seemed to see the appeal of The Road Warriors. So much so that in 1987 he created his own ersatz version in the form of Demolition.

He booked Ax and Smash as WWF’s most dominant tag team, copying the formula that had worked so well for Hawk and Animal elsewhere.

Strange then, that when he finally got his hands on the newly re-christened Legion Of Doom he couldn’t simply repeat a winning formula with the two guys who were best at it.

Apparently Vince felt there was something missing. That something was seemingly a ventriloquist’s dummy called Rocco.

Rocco was about as popular with fans as The Gobbledy Gooker had been. A pre-taped segment introducing the puppet went so badly that it was never aired.

Ultimately a dejected LOD walked out on the company after SummerSlam 1992. They remain one of the companies great, “what if?” stories.
