10 Times WWE Fans' Worst Fears Came True
4. ECW 2.0
In hindsight, it's painfully apparent that WWE's ill-fated attempt to reboot ECW was doomed from the start. Paul Heyman's labour of love was simply too personal, too raw, too nineties for any bootlegged copy to match.
Many fans actually raised these concerns on the Tuesday night brand's launch in 2006 too, basically arguing that Vince McMahon had bitten off more than he could chew by attempting to expand his business empire beyond its reach (and not for the first time).
In truth, we are still none the wiser as to what was going through the chairman of the board's head when he reached this decision. He may have had no intention of the show bearing any resemblance to the one made famous by Tommy Dreamer, Sandman and Sabu a decade earlier.
Whatever the case, though, the finished product was pretty much all of our worst fears condensed into an hour-long slot on Sci-Fi (which is appropriate, when you think about it). It wasn't extreme, it wasn't authentic - it was just a third brand, before they realised that a third brand could be like NXT.
