As noted earlier, it was known well in advance that Bobby Lashley was not only looking to leave IMPACT Wrestling at the onset of 2018 but was also eyeing a return to WWE after over a decade away.

The news was exciting for those who knew what Lashley could bring to the table in today's WWE as a heel, a role he never had the chance to experiment with during his previous run there. As soon as he flipped the switch in IMPACT a few years ago, it couldn't have been a more natural fit for him.

His mic skills improved immensely and even his matches were more entertaining once he settled on a style that worked for him. He was a much more well-rounded performer than he was the last time WWE fans saw him, though it was apparent he needed to be brought back as a heel to ensure he wouldn't be lost in the shuffle right off the bat.

Sure enough, that was exactly what ended up happening.

Lashley resurfaced on Raw one night removed from WrestleMania 34 to a massive reaction from the fans in attendance, but it was all downhill from there. It took all of one week for everyone to realize that he would have been better suited as a heel at that point, especially since he did nothing of note as a fan favorite once he returned.

Although he turned heel in October, it was already too late.
