10 Times WWE Mocked What Fans Hated
2. 'Eater Of Worlds' Bray Wyatt
While the audience supported 'The Eater of Worlds' in spades, WWE's booking of Bray Wyatt before 'The Fiend' did little to lend him credibility. A perfect example of WWE missing the mark was at WrestleMania 30 when the cult leader took on John Cena. The fans in attendance were behind Wyatt, yet Cena picked up the miracle victory and smiled at a sea of frustrated fans.
Onward, Wyatt rarely won a meaningful match. By 2017, his character was further damaged, as he took on the alter ego of Sister Abigail, for which he received the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Worst Gimmick of the Year Award.
After a hiatus, Wyatt returned to WWE with his new Firefly Fun House and 'The Fiend' personas, which were well-received by fans. Aside from the sociopathic clown thing, there was another noticeable change in Wyatt's presentation: the lantern.
Rather than come out with the old lantern, 'The Fiend' carried one made to look like the severed head of his former character. On occasion, such as after the Swamp Fight, Wyatt even spoke to it, reminding the head of his previous persona that it couldn't get the job done. The lantern was symbolic in a straight-forward way. The cult leader gimmick was dead, and that was because Wyatt put it out of its misery.
