10 Times WWE Purposefully Lied To Sell A PPV

7. December To Dismember - 'Houdini Of Hardcore' Already Escaped

Around Christmas 2006, WWE's inevitably-doomed ECW revival ran a PPV which attracted just 90,000 buys worldwide - the lowest pre-Network draw in the company's history. To put that into context, around the same time a similar number of people gathered in Helsinki to celebrate tongue-in-cheek heavy metal band Lordi's victory in the utterly pointless festival of kitsch Eurovision.

Just imagine how many would have turned up had Sabu also been falsely advertised for an appearance in the Finnish capital. Or put it another way, imagine how fewer people would have bought December to Dismember if he wasn't.

The 'Homicidal, Suicidal, Gen... etc. Maniac' was originally slated to bring his brand of furniture-flinging to the headlining Elimination Contest, but a number of factors conspired to remove him from the show. Most of them being that management thought he was a bit of a prick, not to mention useless. So obviously he was replaced mid-show by Bob Holly, definitely not a prick, nor useless. Merry Christmas!

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
