Keeping in the vein of WCW alumni, one man who seemed destined to keep his distance from Vince McMahon's juggernaut was The Icon, Sting.

However, all those reservations about working with the former enemy were washed away when a famous crow squawked over the tannoy system at Survivor Series in 2014, towards the climax of the show's main event elimination tag team match. With power over WWE on the line, Sting arrived - to ground-shaking fan approval - and cost Team Authority their oppressive control.

So far, so good.

But, things wouldn't stay that way for long.

Sting had embroiled himself in a feud with the serial shoveller himself, Triple H, and we all know how that tends to work out. Couple that with the age-old 'WWE vs. WCW' narrative and all arrows pointed to another d*ck-punch to the former enemy. Surely they couldn't have Sting lose in his first match for the company - at WrestleMania of all places?

Surely they could.

Just like that, all the momentum that had been generated by exuberant fans was dashed in favour of one more symbolic victory for McMahon.

Sting would wrestle only thrice more for WWE, winning two of those bouts. Yet, his last match in the company would see him losing a WWE World Title match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions.

Injury would cut his time on the roster short, but WWE are definitely to blame for c*cking up the presentation of a once-in-a-lifetime talent and many younger fans - who hadn't been present for his heyday - were left wondering what all the fuss was about.
