10 Times WWE Totally Trolled You
5. Mark Henry & The Salmon Jacket
On June 17th, 2003, Mark Henry cut the best promo of his lengthy career. The World’s Strongest Man’s up and down WWE career had peaked with his Hall of Pain gimmick a couple of years prior, but longstanding injury problems had slowly crept up on him. Having taken some time away from television, Henry used social media to tease that his wrestling days were numbered, and there was widespread speculation that he’d announce his retirement on his next Raw appearance.
Emerging in a dubious salmon-coloured suit, Henry interrupted John Cena and sent the fans on an emotional rollercoaster. Every word came from the heart, none of it felt forced or fabricated, and his resonance was such that he even had members of the audience welling-up. Even Cena himself looked like he was struggling when Henry told his wife and daughter he was coming home, but little did he know he’d been led astray.
Henry snapped, and destroyed Cena with a World’s Strongest Slam. “You think it’s that easy?” he said, “I got a lot left in the tank!”
A brilliant piece of trolling from both Henry and the company, who had every single viewer suckered into thinking his career was over. Mark was unsuccessful in his quest at taking Cena’s WWE Championship, but his grand ruse remains a career highpoint.
