9. The Resurrection Of Jake The Snake Roberts
There have already been a couple of documentaries on the troubled life of Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. The first, Beyond The Mat, was a warts-and-all look at Roberts while he was at one of his lowest points. The WWE-produced Pick Your Poison was decent but, typically, downplayed the severity of Roberts' personal problems. Even though these two docs exist, Jake remains a fascinating figure and much has happened to him in the interim. The forthcoming documentary The Resurrection of Jake Roberts looks set to be the best Jake Roberts doc yet, if early reports are to be believed. The film received great reviews when it played at the Slam Dance Film Festival last month. The Hollywood Reporter wrote that:
(The) verite-style documentary has the potential to reach a broader audience than just pro wrestling fans with a profile of determination and courage that goes well beyond the drama displayed even during Roberts most fabled bouts.
The review went on to praise the interaction between Jake, Scott Hall and DDP and noted that Roberts is a great subject and engaging interview. With further interviews from Steve Austin, Edge, Jim Ross and more, this looks like a can't-miss film. Chris Bell, the man behind the fantastic 2008 documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster is also on board as a producer. No release date has yet been announced but keep an eye out for this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFCr437f4cs
