10 Ways To Book Kurt Angle's WWE Return
2. The Undertaker's WrestleMania Opponent
Last week’s news that The Undertaker won’t be facing John Cena at WrestleMania 33 leaves the card wide open. Seth Rollins vs. Triple H, Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal, and Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg are the only matches set in stone at the moment, leaving a number of WWE’s biggest stars unoccupied and hours of airtime to fill.
Dave Meltzer expounded on the news by suggesting that Taker won’t be fighting for a Championship in Orlando, and he won’t be wrestling Braun Strowman. He’s set to face a Raw superstar, and with Chris Jericho expected to face Kevin Owens for the US Title, this leaves WWE short on options for their most iconic wrestler.
Former Universal Champion Finn Balor fits the bill, but there’s every chance he’ll rejoin the championship hunt upon returning. At this point, who The Undertaker will face is anyone’s guess, but WWE clearly have something up their sleeve, and it must be something big for them to pull the tabled Cena match.
Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker isn’t likely, but it shouldn’t be considered out of the question, particularly given the lack of credible alternatives. Sure, Angle isn’t on Raw at the moment, but if he’s to return to WWE television, it’ll almost certainly be on the flagship show. Having faced Taker several times in the past, Angle would make for a familiar opponent, but it remains to be seen what kind of match they’d be able to wrestle given they’ll have a combined age of 100 by April 2nd.
