Kurt Angle’s name has been continually linked with a surprise WWE appearance since he left TNA in January 2016. The rumours were particularly strong last summer, when it was announced that WWE would be reaching-out to several former talents in order to fill-out their new post-Draft rosters.

Angle’s return never materialised, and fans were instead “treated” to the likes of Curt Hawkins and Jinder Mahal. That hasn’t killed the speculation, however, and with the 2017 Royal Rumble right around the corner, it’s only natural that his name is on everyone’s lips once again.

Surprise entrants are always one of the Rumble’s most exciting aspects. You never know who’s going to walk down the aisle as soon as the countdown hits zero, and from John Cena’s shock return from injury in 2008 to Chris Jericho’s 2013 comeback, these moments are among the most exciting in Rumble history.

Finn Balor and Samoa Joe are among the most frequently mentioned names this year, but as far as former stars go, nothing would be bigger than Angle’s appearance in the Rumble. Kurt hasn’t been seen on WWE television in almost 11 years, and San Antonio would come unglued as soon as his unmistakable entrance music hit the speakers. Kurt’s impending Hall of Fame induction has increased this scenario’s likelihood tenfold, and it would make for an epic moment.
