10 Ways WWE Booked CM Punk’s Career All Wrong

4. CM Punk Deserved To Lose The World Heavyweight Championship In The Ring In 2008

CM Punk was assaulted by The Legacy at Unforgiven 2008, allowing Chris Jericho the opportunity to enter the Scramble Match and become the World Heavyweight Champion. In being punted in the head by Randy Orton, Punk's meteoric rise to popularity was stunted, and the underdog babyface (that Punk then was) had to live to fight a few more days on his eventual road to championship glory. In being one of the moments when WWE didn't quite understand the unsinkable nature of Punk's rise to fame, keeping him removed from the main event picture did more harm than good. Had Punk entered said match, and maybe lost to soon-to-be top heel Jericho, the ability for the two to possibly engage in a big money feud would've existed. Of course, Punk and Jericho would tangle four years later in 2012, but a 2008 payoff match to a great feud certainly could've been something special, too.
