10 Ways WWE Has Failed Seth Rollins As WWE Champion
6. Outside Interference
Seth Rollins is a cowardly heel character. He is portrayed as the type of guy who would rather escape through the crowd than face a fair fight with his opponent. He likes the deck to be stacked in his favour. There's nothing wrong with any of that. A heel should take shortcuts in order to ensure their victory because it's completely in keeping with their persona. However, there's no doubt that Rollins' championship reign has been hurt by how frequently outside interference plays out in his favour. Too often WWE Creative has used run-ins as crutches to allow the Rollins character to escape his more difficult contests. At the Battleground event back in July, for instance, Brock Lesnar had Rollins completely beaten, staring up at the lights and down for the count. It was at that moment that the lights went out, heralding the appearance of Undertaker and allowing Rollins the chance to make a swift exit without finishing the match. A month later, at SummerSlam, Rollins was in the midst of a chaotic title unification match with John Cena when Jon Stewart of The Daily Show made his way to the ring with a steel chair. Stewart nailed Cena with the chair and Rollins scored the win moments later. It's not wrong for a heel champion to occasionally rely on outside interference to maintain his position at the top of the mountain. However, the interference that has aided Rollins has often seemed more accidental than the result of wily, cunning forward planning. When a heel cheats to win, it should look like they have a trick up their sleeve, not like they have been a beneficiary of good fortune. On this front, WWE has repeatedly made Rollins look unworthy.
