10 Ways WWE Have Shot Themselves In The Foot At WrestleMania 31

6. Holding Onto The Idea Of One Top Guy

The difference between NWA/WCW and WWE was that the former was a heel-oriented promotion and the latter was built around babyfaces. The NWA Champion would usually be a heel, so they could go around the various territories and compete against their big stars, while the WWF was based largely in the same area and was about building monsters for their top star to overcome. From Bruno Sammartino to John Cena, the WWE has been defined by the idea of a top guy, but it€™s an outdated way of looking at things and should be retired immediately. WWE certainly isn€™t as popular as it was at its peak, but the fanbase has never been more diverse and one man can€™t be all things to all people. By pushing Roman Reigns as the new face of this generation, they€™re alienating fans who might want something different. There€™s no reason for the show to revolve around Reigns when there€™s also Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan and whoever else that could stand next to Reigns and lead WWE into the future. WWE€™s refusal to let go of their one top babyface mentality is doing more harm than good, especially to Roman Reigns who was universally beloved only one year ago. It didn€™t make any sense when they routinely clipped CM Punk€™s wings and it doesn€™t make sense now. Why make money with one guy, when they could be making money with five or six different stars?
