4. Commentary That Buries Everything
The commentary in WWE has been holding back the actual wrestling and storytelling going on during the rest of the show for a long time now. Its got to the point that it barely sounds like Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry The King Lawler want to be there, and they spend most matches talking about anything except for the action going on in the ring. The worst comes when someone makes a reference to literally anything in pop culture, because the other two will pounce on it and pick it apart for the rest of the match. During the TLC Pre-Show match between The New Day and Gold & Stardust, the commentary kept coming back to the Flintstones character The Great Gazoo and they actually missed chunks of the action because they were too busy looking him up on their phones. While its easy to blame the announce team, the real problem here is the man behind the curtain, Vince McMahon. Listen to the commentary during the NXT tag team match from a few months ago, and you can tell its being produced differently, most likely by Triple H and its a welcome breath of fresh air. When they do talk about the wrestlers, it somehow gets worse, as The Ascension who after years in developmental were finally brought up and given the gimmick of cocky upstarts disrespectful of legendary teams, and they were torn to shreds by JBL on commentary. This seemed like it might be going somewhere, possibly to The Ascension v APA but that never materialised and now The Ascension are dead in the water before they had a chance to start. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSC0DIJdGfc
