10 WCW Fates Worse Than Death

1. Being Fired By The Guy Who Just Bought Your Company

The Yeti

Vince McMahon looked like the cat that got the cream during the Raw/Nitro simulcast on 26 March 2001. He'd purchased the remnants of WCW shortly beforehand, and now he could bask in the moment on live television. The 'Monday Night Wars' were over. The WWF had won, and Vince was in the mood to brag about it. "I now own my own competition", he boasted with a sly grin.

The then-WWF leader didn't stop there. Cameras panned to show a TV with Nitro on in the background, and Jeff Jarrett was on the screen. Addressing that, McMahon unceremoniously fired 'Double J' live on air before he'd even decided anything else he was going to do with the intellectual properties he now governed. Vince said that Jarrett was "gone", and that was that.

Harsh, but this was perceived payback for Jarrett reportedly holding the WWF ransom for more money back at No Mercy 1999. Jeff has refuted these claims, but the story goes that he demanded more cash to put over Chyna in a 'Good Housekeeping' bout on the pay-per-view. If true, then McMahon never let bygones be bygones once he purchased WCW.

WCW's roster was likely sweating over their futures during the simulcast, but Jeff didn’t have to wait long. He found out during it that his services would no longer be needed. He definitely wasn't going to play a part in the upcoming invasion on WWF screens. That had to suck for Jarrett.

He couldn't even chuckle at Vince screwing up his spelling by saying Jeff was "G.O.O.N.N.E.E". He was going to play a revived Goon gimmick? Now that's a fate worse than death!
