10 WCW Fates Worse Than Death
6. Getting Tricked By The WWF’s Fakes
It's so painfully clear that the promotion was full of it now, but fans in 1996 did have their interest piqued when Jim Ross told viewers on Raw that "Razor Ramon and Diesel" were on their way back to the WWF. What's more, he'd personally make sure of it. Over in WCW, Eric Bischoff and probably other members of management got so wound up by all of this that they handed Kevin Nash and Scott Hall improved contracts.
Yes, mere months after signing them to fat deals that meant they were exclusive to WCW. Work this one out! Nash and Hall were the real winners here, but Bischoff and others must’ve wanted the ground to swallow them up when they clapped eyes on Glenn Jacobs and Rick Bognar doing their best Diesel and Razor respectively on the rival channel.
Vince McMahon’s crap idea to flex his creativity and show the world that anybody could play his characters actually cost WCW money in the end. Stop to really think about that for a second: WCW got so worried about the thought of The Outsiders and their brand new nWo focal points fleeing back to McMahon that they renewed terms just incase.
Nash has described the stunned looks on countless faces behind the curtain when the future Kane and ex-ECW man 'Big Titan' strolled out as "Diesel" and "Razor" on Raw. Eek. How embarrassing for Eric and his cohorts. They'd been spooked by JR's heel promos, and they wanted to do everything in their power to make sure that Kev and Scott couldn't go anywhere.
Here's the thing: They already had by signing them over the summer.
