10 WCW Fates Worse Than Death

5. Being In “The First Ever Viagra Match”

What a claim to fame this is.

Chris Jericho, Booker T, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Rob Van Dam and Kane can all say they were in the first ever Elimination Chamber match (at Survivor Series 2002), and both HBK and The Undertaker can proudly boast about being in the original Hell In A Cell (1997's In Your House: Bad Blood), but can they say they were in the first 'Viagra On A Pole' bout? Can they heck.

That occurred on the 31 July 2000 Nitro. Both Shane Douglas and Billy Kidman hit the ring in this erm...stimulant-based showdown mid-storyline with Torrie Wilson. Apparently, according to WCW, both Shane and Billy needed the penis-popping pills so they could woo Torrie. Imagine the embarrassment of being involved in this nonsense. They were publicly humiliated.

OK, so nobody takes pro wrestling all that seriously when it delves into soap opera or so-called comedy like this, but still - Douglas and Kidman were fighting for the right to give their trouser department a much-needed push, and somebody genuinely thought this would get them over in the eyes of fans. They also presumably figured this would help win a quarter hour against Raw on the other channel.

For the record, no. No, this wasn't one of the greatest matches ever.

As if you were in any doubt, WCW even created a generic label for the bottle of pills hanging above the ring. It, rather handily, said: 'VIAGRA" in aggressive all caps. The pills were massive as well, so either the 'Franchise' or Billy could've pitched an 18 man tent after winning the day.

The real losers were the fans and both wrestlers for having to stomach such embarrassing booking. Taking a finisher on dog poo would've been better than this.
