10 Weird Periods WWE Icons Would Like You To Forget

1. The Undertaker (Post-Streak)

The Undertaker's place in wrestling lore is not up for debate. The Deadman is one of the most recognisable names in the history of the industry, a Hall of Fame certainty who's longevity alone guarantees his legacy. Add all the championships, memorable moments, undefeated streaks and feuds, and you've got an all-timer.

It would have been better if he'd retired after The Streak was ended though, right?

The Streak was the only reason to keep trotting 'Taker out, year after year. Once Brock Lesnar snapped it in 2014, wrestling's favourite zombie mortician should have shuffled off into the night. It was the perfect way to end a storied career, no matter how shoddy the match itself may or may not have been. It was the right bookend to a true icon.

The wrestling bug cares not for logic though, even in the veins of the dead. 'Taker has continued to pop up here and there, gradually decreasing the quality of his own legacy with each passing shambles. The Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36 was a charming return to form, but it won't be enough to erase the sad matches of the post-Streak era.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
