10 Weirdest Wrestling Cameos In Music Videos

7. Raven - Smashing Pumpkins

Billy Corgan's love for professional wrestling is no secret. A brief stint in the original ECW, a highly publicised relationship with TNA, and eventual purchase of the NWA, his sporadic love affairs with the sports entertainment industry have been well-documented. Which makes it no surprise that he incorporated wrestling into one of his music videos as well.

For the Smashing Pumpkins' single, "Owata", Corgan recruited veteran grappler and ECW legend, Raven. The video also features Cheerleader Melissa and Shelly Martinez, and essentially tells the story of an apparent love triangle between the three, as they travel to an indie show.

Despite featuring Raven prominently in the video, it's the girls that provide the in-ring action, with Raven acting as Shelly's manager. The music video itself is actually a shortened version of a 12 minute mini-movie, directed by Robby Starbuck. The full-length version gives a much better account of the overall plotline and the overall story does suffer from being shortened into just three minutes.

Coincidentally, the same year this video was released, Corgan formed his own wrestling company, Resistance Pro Wrestling. Based out of Chicago, Corgan's company would go on to feature many stars of the indie scene, including - you guessed it - Raven, Cheerleader Melissa, and Shelly Martinez.

Occasional wrestler, full-time gym rat and lifelong lover of the grapple game. Would probably buy you a shot of Jack at the bar in exchange for witty banter...and preferably more Jack. @MartynGrant88 for more wrestling-related musings and weight room wisecracks!
