Is Shane McMahon supposed to be the good guy in his rivalry with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens?

Asking for a friend.

SmackDowns' creative team has been so backwards with its portrayal of McMahon that it is almost astonishing that Owens and Zayn have ever been portrayed as the villains. The prodigal son has been treated as the protagonist to the best friends' antagonist but in reality, he has taken every opportunity possible to screw them out of the WWE Championship and never before was it so unsolicited as Sunday's Fastlane pay-per-view.

Taking a seat at ringside, he interfered in the match, costing Owens and Zayn the title on two separate occasions. It was blatant, unnecessary and largely unprovoked. It only served to make him look like an even bigger heel, as opposed to the babyface the writing team has been begging fans to accept him as.

The tone of the character is all wrong and unfortunately for the SmackDown commissioner, it will only hurt whatever story the brand is trying to tell and, ultimately, the extent to which fans will get behind him.
