10 World Champions WWE Never Believed In

1. Rey Mysterio

It's hard to blame WWE for putting the World Heavyweight Championship on Rey Mysterio after Eddie Guerrero passed away in late 2005. Fans criticized the company for capitalizing off his death, but Mysterio was already in the upper-echelon of the card anyway, so him holding the world title wasn't a huge stretch. He was undoubtedly popular enough, but because WWE didn't see him as world championship material, his reign was a massive flop. Then again, fans should have seen it coming. His amazing Royal Rumble win didn't close the pay-per-view, nor did his World Heavyweight Championship victory at WrestleMania 22. Throughout his three month reign as champ, he lost to the likes of JBL, Kane, The Great Khali and, well, everyone he went up against. As The Ultimate Underdog, he should have won a match or two, but WWE simply wasn't sold on him being a main event player. His next two world title reigns were one month and two hours long, respectively, so Vince McMahon's lack of faith in The Master of the 619 was a recurring theme over the course of his career. At the very least, Mysterio proved he was talented enough that he didn't need to hold a world title to get over with the audience, but he deserved one meaningful title reign before leaving the company in February 2015.
