10 WrestleMania Results That Made Absolutely No Sense
1. Hulk Hogan Defeats Yokozuna (WrestleMania IX)
A dried-out turd of a show wrapped in a fancy-dress toga, WrestleMania IX reeked, and not just for the historically bad Giant Gonzalez vs. Undertaker clash.
The main event segments stunk Caesars Palace out. Bret Hart ate a crushing loss to Yokozuna, ceding his WWE Championship in the process. Disappointing from a kayfabe standpoint, but what followed was borderline insulting, as Hulk Hogan marched down to the ring, demanding Yoko hand him an immediate title shot (citing his supposed super-friendship with Hart), then took his belt in 22 seconds.
WWE weren't in the best place at the time. A roster-wide star-power shortage led to 'Mania IX's smaller venue, and an attendance decline of well over 40,000. Still, going back to Hogan wasn't the solution. His peak had come and gone. Hulkamania was waning, and while some supporters were happy to see the show go off the air with a triumphant babyface, that Hulk was gone from the company months later highlighted the daftness of Vince McMahon's decision.
Hart's first WWE Championship run was originally scheduled to last longer than a year. Instead, it died in less than half that time so Hogan could enjoy one last spotlight-stealing moment.
