5. Vince McMahon Ridicules His Own WWF Product

Meanwhile, Vince McMahon set the template for counterproductive guff years earlier.

McMahon was really proud of his 'New Generation'. He was so proud that he booked Jerry Lawler vs. Roddy Piper on top at the 1994 King Of The Ring. So proud that, whilst simultaneously ripping into guys like Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage for being old hat, he brought a past-his-prime Jake Roberts back into the fold.

The "Billionaire Ted" skits produced on WWF TV in 1996 were appalling. Characters like the "Huckster" (Hogan), "Nacho Man" (Savage) and "Scheme Gene" ('Mean' Gene Okerlund) gobbled up valuable minutes on air to shout from the rooftops about how WWF was superior to WCW. Except, they didn't.

All McMahon achieved was ridiculing his own retro content he'd monetise for decades after these dreadful inserts. We're talking Hall Of Famers here - guys like Hulk and Randy were key facets of Vince's history, and he'd fawn over their legacies when it suited him at a later date.
