10 Wrestlers Who Could Win Their First World Championship In 2020
4. Jeff Cobb
The considerably more affable alter ego of Lucha Underground’s demonically brutal Matanza Cueto, Jeff Cobb has performed a rather inconsistent 2019. Highs have included defeating Will Ospreay for the NEVER Openweight Championship at New Japan and ROH’s MSG supershow and performing in this year’s G1 Climax. Lows have included losing to no one’s favourite wrestler Matt Taven in less than 10 minutes for the ROH Championship.
A remarkably strong and agile big man, Cobb offers plenty of crowd pleasing offence in his matches and is a likeable if slightly reserved promo. Clearly one of ROH’s hotter prospects for 2020, Cobb would be the ideal nemesis for new World Champ PCO. The hossfights between the two would no doubt be entertaining and Cobb would be a better choice of long term champ than the French Canadian Frankenstein (whose defeat of super heel Rush seemed very questionable to a lot of fans).
That is, of course, if he stays in ROH; Cobb’s clearly passionate about New Japan and a permanent jump in 2020 would most likely leave him swimming in the NEVER division. Whether that would be wise is anyone’s guess but ROH would be sensible to pull the trigger on Guam’s former Olympian in 2020 and keep him on their ever-changing roster.
